Established in 2002, the Intel Preferred Provider Network, managed by Summa Associates, is a unique child care resource for Intel Employees. After completing a study of the Intel workforce, the company recognized their employees have a need for additional quality infant and toddler care and quality flexible hour care for all ages of children. The Intel Preferred Provider Network is a system of family child care providers who offer quality child care in their homes. These providers must be invited to participate in the Intel Network. Summa Associates recruits quality child care providers according to zip codes specified by Intel in an effort to create flexible child care slots, close to home. All Intel Network providers offer priority enrollment in their homes for children of Intel employees.
In order to qualify as a provider on the Intel Preferred Provider Network, every provider must be fingerprinted and have a criminal history background check performed. Additionally, they must hold a certification in First Aid and CPR. They must participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and will receive monitoring visits from the CACFP each year. All Intel Preferred Providers are also required to participate in Close to Home™, Summa Associates’ Family Child Care Quality Enhancement Program. Through this program, the providers receive training a variety of topics relating to providing quality child care in a home environment. Intel Preferred Providers have access to an Intel Preferred Provider Network Mentor for support and guidance. These mentors perform annual home visits to the providers to conduct an environmental health and safety check and provide any requested technical assistance. Intel Preferred Providers must carry full liability insurance and are required to participate in professional development activities.

What is a Family Child Care Home?
A Family Child Care Home is one in which a provider operates a child care business in her own home and cares for no more than four children for compensation. If the provider is DHS licensed, she may have up to 10 children in her home for compensation and must meet a 1:5 child-to-staff ratio. Additionally, some providers are DES certified or monitored through other agencies such as the Child Care Food Program.
What requirements must the Family Child Care Provider fulfill to be listed with Summa?
The provider must be fingerprinted, have a background check, and be CPR and First Aid certified. DHS Licensing, DES certification, and participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program are optional.
What is the Intel Preferred Provider Network?
The Network consists of providers that have signed an agreement with Intel. The agreement states that the provider will be fingerprinted, participate in Close to Home™, participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, carry liability insurance, and offer preferential enrollment to children of Intel employees. Additionally, the providers have access to an Intel Preferred Provider Network Mentor who can provide support and answer questions.
Who manages the program?
The Child Care Referral Program is managed by Summa Associates, a company that develops programs for businesses to help their employees balance work and family.
What is Close to Home™?
Close to Home™ was originally created more than a decade ago in Arizona. It is a family child care business initiative designed to meet employee needs for affordable, quality, family home child care. Close to Home™ has been an extremely successful project over the past fourteen years and has even been recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor as a “model program for resolving multiple child care problems”. The founding sponsorship of Close to Home™ was created by employers participating in the American Business Collaboration for Quality Dependent Care.
